After I started running it was a slippery slope to becoming a healthier and happier individual! I could literally feel my body transforming itself with each mile. My muscles became stronger, my lungs became fuller, my mind became clearer! Once I got going with running I realized I needed to balance out the impacts of being a runner, so I started going to yoga. After 6 months of attending yoga classes regularly, I did something I NEVER thought I would do, I signed up for an 8 week, 200 hour, yoga teacher training program! This was a real journey! I had multiple emotional melt downs during the course of this 8 week program. I grew more in touch with myself than I had ever been in my life! I had moments of fear, doubt, and anxiety, but I also had moments of enlightenment, peace and personal growth! It made me realize the 5 things that help me worry less and the WORRY Warrior was born!
As a part of my Yoga Teacher Training we had a Naturopathic Doctor come in to speak to us about the importance of nutrition and how to be more aware of how our diet affects our bodies. It was at this moment that a light went on in my head! I have spent all of my life suffering from the affects of food on my body. Much of my childhood was spent leaving sleepover’s early due to stomach pain, crying in the backseat of my parents car on our way home from dinner, calling home from the nurses office at school after lunch, and numerous other painful experiences. My husband has multiple food allergies, and I never hesitated to alter our diet and read nutrition labels in the store to ensure he wasn’t consuming foods that would cause him to react. In all of this, I never took a moment to pause and consider that some of my discomforts and pains could be coming from my diet. In the back of my head I always knew that I was sensitive to certain foods, but I never considered REMOVING them from my diet.
After completing my yoga teacher training I started experimenting with certain foods in my diet. I realized that there were many things that were not serving me and causing me to develop painful reactions and symptoms. I finally made the leap and went and had a igG Fingerstick Test and discovered that I was right on par and many of the foods I have been eating are not serving my body. Nutrition and diet are such a vital piece of our every day lives and it is a huge factor that so many people ignore. The truth is there are probably more people than not that are negatively affected by certain foods in their diet. While it can be scary to think about, finding out which foods are not serving your body will help you become healthier, stronger and more aware. I no longer live in fear of food and how my body will respond, I can move forward confidently in the direction of my goals and know that my body will carry me there!
Making changes in life is difficult, I have made a lot of changes in the past 3 years. It all started with those first few steps I took on my journey to becoming a runner. Today I feel stronger and healthier than I have ever felt in my life. I still have days where I struggle and moments where I doubt myself, but I know I am working towards being the very best self I can be.
